Meditate for hot flashes

Hot flashes: They're probably one of the most uncomfortable parts of menopause. One minute you're feeling fine, the next you're undescribably warm, you're face is flushed, and perhaps you're even sweating all over your body.

It's no wonder so many menopausal women immediately turn to hormone replacement therapy, despite that more and more studies are showing that HRT can raise your risk of heart disease and breast cancer. Fortunately, new research is constantly showing that they might not have to. In fact, one recent study has shown that menopausal women can actually experience major relief from hot flashes simply by taking part in a stress reduction program that includes meditation.

During the study, a group of 15 menopausal women kept diaries of their hot flashes during a seven-week stress reduction program (which included meditation), and in the four weeks immediately afterwards.

Over time, the frequency of hot flashes the women were experience decreased by an average of 39 percent, the researchers found. Also, the severity of the hot flashes decreased by about 40 percent, and women's quality of life improved by 28 percent. Those are some huge changes-all of them beneficial. In fact, if the drug companies could package them in a pill they'd jump with joy.
