Dish up some curry to combat joint swelling

If you're looking for an even tastier antidote to curb joint pain, you might want to try a remedy that you can pick up with a fork rather than drink from a spoon.

This is nifty news: A study was done that suggested turmeric (a spice found in curry) could actually prevent the swelling of joints in rats with arthritis. Now granted, people and rats aren't the same (I smell a joke here), but for centuries, doctors who have been trained in Ayurvedic medicine-traditional medicine in India-have used turmeric to deal with arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Emerging research is now suggesting turmeric may help prevent dementia and cancer, possibly due to its powerful anti-inflammatory effect.

It's a simple way to handle a painful problem, and it gets back to the basics of treating yourself through dietary measures first. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin-the same ingredient you'll find in over-the-counter topical creams. The difference with turmeric is that it'll go directly into your system, doing its work from the inside.

I'm a huge fan of trying something that you can whip up in your own kitchen and you didn't need your doctor to write a prescription for. It doesn't hurt to try it out, especially if you find it works for you, and better yet-if you find it tastes delicious!
