Another surgery that should never be an option

If you or someone you know is considering gastric bypass surgery, do them a favor and send them this letter. It’s a barbaric procedure that is being glamorized by mainstream media. No one is talking about the fact that you can die from this surgery! And those lucky enough to survive often put the weight right back on again.

And now we’re learning that some victims (or what mainstream medicine calls “patients”) develop neurological problems that make them lose coordination, fall down, and can even become so severe, that they live their life in a wheelchair!

The underlying cause is, ironically, a lack of nutrients in their diet, according to a recent study.

And this lack of nutrients isn’t always immediately evident. Symptoms can appear years after the person has had the surgery, so constant vigilance must be maintained for any early signs.

Researchers found that nutritional deficiencies can include insufficient amounts of vitamin B12, thiamine, and/or copper. By the way, if you’re going to check your body’s B12 levels, the standard B12 blood test is unreliable and may fall within normal reference range even though there’s a deficiency. You need to check a methylmalonic acid level, which will actually be elevated in the face of a B12 deficiency. If your doctor doesn’t know this, ask him to look it up and verify it on your behalf.

Once these nutrients are restored, a lot of patients eventually recover. But many patients don’t recover, their symptoms remaining permanent.

And the patient who did the best out of all of them? The one who had his gastric-bypass surgery reversed!

As I explained at some length in the May 2007 issue of my newsletter, Health Revelations, gastric bypass surgery is not a drive-thru remedy.

One concern that I brought up in particular is this very issue of nutrient deficiencies. Folks can only eat tiny amounts of food at a time—which means those few spoonfuls can’t possibly contain all the nutrients their bodies need!

Gastric bypass survivors therefore need to reverse years of poor habits by eating a nutritionally sound diet and supplementing with vitamins and minerals. Hmm, maybe they should try that before trying this dangerous surgery!
