You've heard of brain foods, right? So why not a brain vitamin?
A new study out of England is showing that Vitamin B12 supplements can prevent the loss of brain volume. They found that people in the upper third of vitamin B12 levels were six times less likely to suffer brain shrinkage compared to the lowest third.
This could have significant applications for reducing the memory and cognitive problems many people face as they age – and that have been linked to brain shrinkage.
Vitamin B12 helps build red blood cells and maintain the central nervous system. In fact, many Alzheimer's patients have very low levels of vitamin B12.
In addition to supplements, you can get lots of B12 from the foods you eat. Natural sources of vitamin B12 are dairy products, fish and meat.
